Statistics show that almost 1.5 billion people in 91 countries currently live in poverty-  according to UNICEF, 22,000 of them are children who die each day due to poverty. Around 27-28 percent of all children in developing countries are estimated to be underweight or stunted. About 10.6 million children died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5. And around 1.4 million die each year from lack of access to safe drinking water and   adequate sanitation. These aren't just numbers, they are real facts that indicate society is on the edge of corruption. While we all may think that providing food and clean water is the    answer to ending poverty it is certainly not. If what we want is to avert poverty from ever happening, we need to educate families who are experiencing the unimaginable effects of poverty. You might have noticed all the false things that's being said about the religion of Islam. Here's my favorite video of a brother I admire for his knowledge of the religion and his tremendous talent in spoken word poetry which he uses to explain the true meaning of Islam and its beliefs. Hopefully, this video will shine some light on you and give you some knowledge about Islam. And  please disregard what media might say about the religion. We all know that religion is about peace. While Democrats and Republicans are making their final push to win offices across the U.S., they are still debating whether they'll serve the American people or let them down with broken promises and failed bills. Here in Wisconsin, as Scott Walker and Mary Burke along with many other Republicans and Democrats battle out, the United States map will be changing from red to blue and from blue to red. The most important thing for us U.S. residents is whether we'll actually have a Congress where both parties compromise and work together for the better of our country. According to the World Health Organization,"t he Ebola virus causes an acute, serious illness which is often fatal if untreated. Ebola virus disease (EVD) first appeared in 1976 in 2 simultaneous outbreaks, one in Nzara, Sudan, and the other in Yambuku, Democratic Republic of Congo. The latter occurred in a village near the Ebola River, from which the disease takes its name. The current outbreak in west Africa, (first cases notified in March 2014), is the largest and most complex Ebola outbreak since the Ebola virus was first discovered in 1976. There have been more cases and deaths in this outbreak than all others combined. Two weeks ago I decided to be a part of a youth led organization called Urban Undergrounds. A friend of mine told me to check it out last year and thought that it would be a perfect way for me to start as a young passionate person who is committed to make a change within our community. The organization brings together young people between the ages of 14 to 18 who want to make a change within the community in terms of violence, poverty, health, criminal justice and education. According to Urban Underground's website the purpose of creating such organization is because," very often communities will convene stakeholders to explore and address issues impacting youth without ever consulting or engaging them. Although young people are often told that they are "the future" they are treated as if their ideas, creativity, and influence have no relevancy to the present. Today I attended an annual community event called "Mothers Against Violence." It was started by a woman named Marna who lost her son due to gun violence ten years ago here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The purpose of the event was to get the people together to discuss the effects of violence and to talk about how to prevent this from ever happening again. As part of the event there was food and bounce house for the children. But the moment before the food was being served, I hear something that I wanted others to know. The woman who began this annual event came out from her house where the event was held after many hours of preparation for food. She and two other woman came out with a large banner which read in bold, Hall of Pain 2014 below it read all the African American males and females who died due to senseless violence this year.
