Two weeks ago I decided to be a part of a youth led organization called Urban Undergrounds. A friend of mine told me to check it out last year and thought that it would be a perfect way for me to start as a young passionate person who is committed to make a change within our community. The organization brings together young people between the ages of 14 to 18 who want to make a change within the community in terms of violence, poverty, health, criminal justice and education. According to Urban Underground's website the purpose of creating such organization is because," very often communities will convene stakeholders to explore and address issues impacting youth without ever consulting or engaging them. Although young people are often told that they are "the future" they are treated as if their ideas, creativity, and influence have no relevancy to the present. US-Cuba Relation: Was It Justifiable?

Last Wednesday, President Obama took to the podium announcing that the U.S. has now    gained full diplomatic realations with Cuba. This comes after it was announced that Alan Gross, an American contractor will be released as part of a landmark deal with Cuba. Mr. Gross was arrested in 2009 and sentenced to five years in a Cuban prison for trying to deliver satellite telephone equipment capable of cloaking connections to the Internet.   After winning re-election, President Obama made Cuba a priority for his second term. Pope Francis encouraged the talks with letters to President Obama and Mr. Castro and had the Vatican host a meeting in October to finalize a deal. President Obama spoke with Mr. Castro by telephone last Tuesday to seal the agreement in a call that lasted more than 45 minutes, the first direct contact between the leaders of the two countries in more than 50 years.      The United States will ease restrictions on remittances, travel and banking, while Cuban

Mothers Against Gun Violence

Today I attended an annual community event called "Mothers Against Violence." It was started by a woman named Marna who lost her son due to gun violence ten years ago here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The purpose of the event was to get the people together to discuss the effects of violence and to talk about how to prevent this from ever happening again. As part of the event there was food and bounce house for the children. But the moment before the food was being served, I hear something that I wanted others to know. The woman who began this annual event came out from her house where the event was held after many hours of preparation for food. She and two other woman came out with a large banner which read in bold, Hall of Pain 2014 below it read all the African American males and females who died due to senseless violence this year. One of the lady who was holding the banner with Marna stated, "many of these names written here are students who I've taught. W
